Throughout our lives, we encounter a lot of people, many of whom are easily forgotten – in fact the majority won’t play crucial roles in our lifetime. But some leave a powerful impression and affect many areas of our existence, challenge our emotional and rational selves and ultimately cultivate change in our destiny. These are the people who meet us for a specific reason, a reason we usually are yet to discover and may not understand after the relationship has fulfilled its purpose.
It often feels like we were meant to meet in this lifetime and it is these people who have major roles in our journey of self-realisation and transformation. These are called soul contracts or soul agreements.
What are Soul Contracts? Soul contracts are agreements we make with other souls before we are born. Souls we have contracts with will be those to bring deep changes into our lives through unique connection. These contracts are made with a special purpose, and that is to teach us important lessons we’ve chosen to learn before reincarnation. People we have soul contracts with will come to our lives for this purpose, and they will be an important and unavoidable part of our unique path.
There are many soul contract relationships, and we make these with family members, friends, lovers and others. Before we are even born we have chosen our surroundings – our parents, where we will be born and who will be the first people to influence us. In our childhood we start to embrace patterns and schemes of behaviour that will establish our blockages and our primal wounds, just so that we can later heal. It is these patterns that will bring to us people we have soul contracts with, and they will come into our lives to teach us about ourselves, who we are and who we are destined to become. These soul contracts affect our relationships at a deep, profound level. After meeting each of these souls, we will never again be who we were.
These souls we have contracts with will affect our relationships in many ways, but more than anything they bring us awakenings, teach us love and how to relate with others, give us healing and help us embrace our unique path. To find our Authentic Self. Here is how soul contracts affect our relationships.
1. They Help Us Heal
There is a divine plan for each of our souls in this lifetime and it is these people who will help us discover our real path, help us heal, through darkness or through light. We make these contracts with other people in order to help discover ourselves and heal parts of us that need to be healed. Soul contracts we make are there to help us resolve some challenge or break a pattern we have learned, break a theme of conditioning so we can finally progress and empower our souls, by healing and growing stronger. All healing relationships through soul contracts are predestined for us.
In other words, we choose to learn from these souls before we get here on earth, they carry lessons we have to learn in this lifetime and they will accompany us on our journey for this specific purpose. Soul contracts are made to help us heal. It is not uncommon for these contracts to carry very intense emotions, sometimes very painful. It may seem they are here just to wound us even more and add even more salt to the wound that needs to heal. But, the truth is, they are here to help us become aware of that wound, and find the cure for it within ourselves, instead of suppressing or denying it. And we have chosen them for this very reason.
There is a theme, a focus for this lifetime we have to fulfill with other souls, and it is these contracts that change the whole perspective of relating in the future. Sometimes we can repeat these lessons, just so that we can incorporate what we have learned and heal our wounds. It is all part of our programming and the soul we have a contract with is there to help us move beyond that programming.
2. Healing Soul Mate Relationships Teach Us Love We make those agreements at the soul level, before we get to know each other. One of the gifts we get through soul contracts is love, and probably the most powerful of connections of two souls that will teach us this important lesson are soul mate connections, karmic partnerships and perhaps our twin flame, if we meet one. What makes these soul connections so powerful is the huge transformative potential they have. Soul contracts are made to show us the path to unconditional love by challenging us and connecting our soul with another.
With soul mates and soul contracts it is all about two people coming together with a mission to awaken each other’s capacity for unconditional love, find it within and mutually challenge personal growth. These people bring us challenges that we need to face in order to reach our fullest potential and learn about loving oneself and others. Soul mates will show us the path to love, but will also present challenges and trials we need to go through. We will experience hardships as many times as we need, till we embrace true self-love and learn what unconditional love really is. This is why some may have many soul contracts that carry difficult lessons, but that is only because everyone has a path that is unique. We need to make soul contracts for this lifetime to teach us about giving and receiving from a safer place, one that is not guided by fear or ego, but selflessness, light and truth. This will change the quality of all future relationships for the better, as after each encounter with another we have soul agreement with we will speak more from the heart than from ego or fear.
3. They Help Us Embrace Our Unique Path
Our relationships reflect the energy we carry within. What we project is what we believe, what we think we deserve, what we think is right and how we feel, but people we have relationships with are there for a reason, and that is to teach us how limiting this can be, and therefore show us the real path to self fulfilment. A soul we have a contract with is there to help us get rid of everything limiting and restricting, everything that is blocking us and we might not be aware of. This path might not be easy, as the souls we encounter present challenges to us, and are there to stimulate our growth.
We attract relationships with different souls to help us learn about ourselves, sometimes through support and love, but many times through challenges. They are here to remove the mask and blockages by showing us our real selves. Then we will learn it is ok to let go of things that are no longer taking us where we would like to be – spiritually, mentally and emotionally.
We tend to project our inner needs onto others. This can be anything we need to develop in this lifetime. Whether it’s confidence, feeling worthy, feeling loved, feeling accepted and protected, a contract with another soul is made to help us find everything we need, by teaching us to look within.
4. They Improve Our Future Relationships Soul agreements are made to teach not only the way we understand the world and others, but to understand our own needs and desires, our fears and motives. Every person we have a significant relationship with will teach us important lessons that will affect the future of our relating with others.
Every time we encounter an obstacle we transform a part of ourselves that is limiting us. We will naturally gravitate towards change once we realize our behaviours bring out the same patterns that are limiting us. Soul agreements carry different energies and lessons. Some will recur, and this will happen because it was designed to before we incarnated. Every relationship carries a potential of transformation, and this potential will be directed toward the part of us that is predestined for that specific transformation.
When the transformation occurs, we will no longer hold on to patterns we learned. This is why all future relationships will have a much better quality to them, as we are approaching relating to others with more self-love. Some relationships will teach us how limiting our fears are, some will teach us how loveable we are. Every previous soul contract will lead to the future , and they are all part of the divine plan.
5. They Teach Us It’s Ok To Let Go Every contract we have with another soul has a purpose. Usually, until the divine mission for two souls coming together in this lifetime is fulfilled, the contract can’t be broken, even if we are physically separated. When it’s fulfilled and we’ve learned the lesson this person carried for us, when learning is done, we have to move on and incorporate what we have learned so we can become empowered and embrace our true path.
When we know it is time to end it, when we feel it is the right thing to do, eventually we are able to move on. There is a reason why this specific person became your lover and there is a reason why you didn’t stay together – they had a purpose in your life and once it’s fulfilled, the contract is ended. The relationship has served its purpose. It is how soul contracts affect your life. The lesson we learned remains, and it is ok to let go of what no longer serves us.
Five Soul Contracts You Want to Release and How to Start Doing It!
Soul Contract (s) are not really about the connection between people
Soul Contract. Everyone wants to know what the Soul Contract is with their partner, brother, mother, best friend… They think that once they know this, they’ll be able to have a great relationship.
However, Soul Contracts are not about the connection between people, but more about the connection to yourself. Soul Contracts, as we talk about them here, act as painful blocks stopping you from being able to achieve your dream marriage, experience or have business success. When a Soul Contract is blocking the way, it’s disheartening and confusing.
If you’ve tried everything you can think of and you’re still stuck, a Soul Contract may be the culprit.
Here are five common, yet hidden, Soul Contracts. (Read more Soul Contracts book for a more in depth explanation.)
Perhaps you recognize some of these within yourself? Perhaps it’s time to take some action (I’ll show you how to do that below as well!).
SoulContract Number 5: Soul Contract of Martyrdom
Do you find that it’s a lot easier to say “yes” than it is to say “no”? Do you put your own needs or desires aside to help other people (or animals) even when it’s not so good for you? Maybe you feel like you’re a better person if you sacrifice yourself to make someone else happy? If you answered yes to any of these, you’re probably feeling pretty frustrated with your life, feeling that others don’t appreciate you and tired.
You may also feel that being called “selfish” is the worst type of insult. And you probably make decisions to ensure that no one can ever apply that label to you. This is how the Martyrdom Soul Contract often manifests… and it’s not pretty. Once you’ve mastered this soul-level agreement, it won’t mean you’ll never help another person. You’ll simply make better decisions about who to help and when.
Soul Contract Number 4: Soul Contract of Loyalty
Do you stand by your friend, partner, parent, boss no matter how they treat you? Have you ever said, “Yes, he’s mean but family is family” or “I have no choice, she’s my boss”? The Loyalty Soul Contract helps you create a situation in which you are walked over by those you love. You may feel helpless or trapped when considering changing or leaving the relationship because you don’t want to abandon the other person.
When a Soul Contract of this nature is finally mastered, you’re able to make changes in your relationships. Even if you’ve struggled with for years to leave your husband or quit your job, the changes finally happen. The “hold” that those people have over you is gone!
Soul Contract Number 3: Soul Contract of Loneliness
Have you been looking for your Soul-Mate throughout your life only to have one relationship after another result in failure, dis-ease, sadness and heartbreak? Have you tried blind dates, online dating, or settling for someone who isn’t “it”? While there are many different contracts that could be standing in the way of finding love, the Soul Contract of Loneliness can be one of the most difficult to handle. When your soul is adhering to this type of agreement, even when you’ve found someone wonderful – you still feel alone, separate and unsupported. Master this contract and you’re finally able to “feel” the support and love that is out there. WITH this contract, it’s like it doesn’t exist (even though it often already does).
Soul Contract Number 2: Soul Contract of Anxiety
If you’re someone who always feels anxious, nervous or worried, you may have a Soul Contract of Anxiety. Do you wait for the other shoe to drop? When money is coming in, do you count the days until “you know” it will go out again? When one ends, do you quickly replace it with another worry? You may be thinking this is normal human nature, but it isn’t! In many cases, it’s a contract that you took out some time in a past life that your soul still believes is valid.
Why would you ever make such a soul level commitment? Perhaps you felt that your anxiety would heighten your awareness so miss anything hurtful again? (I’ve found with my clients that this is a common reason.) Filtering life through a blanket of anxiety is not fun for you (obviously) or for the people around you. When you master this, you’ll find that you are more able to be in touch with your intuition, which will alleviate your need for the hyper-vigilance. Soul Contract Number 1: Soul Contract: Rocking the Boat
Are you afraid to be seen as marching to your own drummer? Someone who doesn’t break rules or rock the boat? Who doesn’t even want others to know you’re reading this website? This is a very common Soul Contract for protection. By standing in the background and blending in, you run less risk of being ostracized, penalized or pointed out. While this might have seemed like a good idea during some part part of your life, it isn’t anymore. This type of contract makes it difficult to build a business, become an expert, write a book, and more because you must stand out in order to do these things!
When you master this Soul Contract, life opens up. So much of what each person has come here to do is dependent on being able to blaze their own path. When you finally master this soul-level agreement, it’s like “ta-da!”, the lights turn on, your work is highlighted and things move forward.
How to Get Started Releasing & Clearing These Contracts
So, what do you do if you realize that you have aSoul Contract creating havoc in your life? How can you master it? For step-by-step instructions, check out my Soul Contracts book . But to give you a quick start you can follow these tips!
The Set Up
Begin by working on your personal energy management! You can use any tool or technique to help you feel more calm or more peaceful. For example The Heart Magnet Technique takes only 20-seconds and sets up a great foundation for releasing your Soul Contracts!
Step 1: Understanding
First, you have to realize that you can’t just break a Soul Contract. It doesn’t work that way. You first must do the work to understand how this agreement has both served and hindered you. It’s like… your understanding is loosening the tooth so that it can be pulled.
Step 2: Awareness
Your second step is awareness. Spend time witnessing the Soul Contract and understanding how it’s been rearing its ugly head in your life. For example, if martyrdom is the issue, notice when you’re giving up your own needs for those of another person. You’ll start to see patterns in your behaviour, and as they emerge, it will become easier and easier for you recognize those times when you tend to sacrifice for others. This takes some time, so don’t expect to get it perfectly right away.
Step 3: Clarity in Choice
After you’ve mastered the awareness portion, a new piece will emerge: the awareness of the contract will bring about a moment of clarity. If you normally say, “Yes! I’ll take your Grandma to the grocery store on Sunday so you can stay in and watch football” you’ll now find that there is a small pause just before you give your answer. Within that pause you have created an opportunity: “Do I want to follow the same pattern or do I want to make a different decision this time?” Sometimes you will make the same decision and you will see the same results – but the more aware you are, the more you’ll be able to make a healthier choice.
Step 4. Master and Release
Once you feel you’ve really got a handle on this contract, you understand where it shows up and how it’s affecting your life. After you’ve been working on making some different decisions, you can speed up and deepen the release by writing about it (automatic writing can be very effective) or by reading my Soul Contracts book.
There is no right or wrong decision here – only what works. It’s a process – a process of realizing the Soul Contract is there, becoming aware of the pattern and how it shows up in your life, and then taking action steps to finally release it from your life. It’s one of the most empowering things you can do as a human!

What is a Soul Contract?
Unlike what most people think, Soul Contracts are not agreements between two souls. Soul Contracts are actually agreements we make with ourselves to avoid experiencing negative beliefs our own negative beliefs about ourselves.
For example, you might have a Soul Contract that says you must be number one at whatever you do, at all costs. The reason for your Soul Contract would be based on your negative belief. Perhaps in this case your negative belief is that you aren’t good enough.
You may have a Soul Contract that blocks you from feeling love, making money, feeling good about yourself, making friends or any number of other things. There is always an underlying negative belief that caused you to create the Soul Contract.
Your Soul System
Soul Contracts and negative beliefs are part of your Soul System, which is made up of Soul Contracts, Seed Thoughts, Discordant Energies and Root Beliefs. Each person has their own unique Soul System to help them discover which components are in need of attention.
While most people focus on “breaking” their Soul Contracts, the key to mastering (and the releasing) them is cultivating a deeper understanding of the related negative beliefs.
What is a Soul Contract Examples
Each Soul Contract indicates a lesson you need to learn in evolve your soul. Understanding your Soul Contracts and why they are in your life is the key to creating happiness, health, wealth, and well-being. There are four main types of Soul Contracts:
Relationship Soul Contracts
These are the contracts between your soul and the soul of another person that you put into place pre-birth. These are usually identified through strife or great emotion with another person. Understanding and then embodying the lesson behind this type of contract can help heal (or release) a particular relationship.
Animal Soul Contracts
These contracts are created in the same manner as Relationship Soul Contracts. They reflect the power of animals to help humans heal and evolve. When you master one of these contracts, it’s good for you and your pet. Read more in my Animal Lessons book.
Lifetime Soul Contracts
When you were in a negative state of being, reacting to a repeated negative experience, you formed Lifetime Soul Contracts. There is always a lesson behind this type of contract. Learning that lesson will release the block from your life and free you up to move forward.
Bump Soul Contracts
This is a type of pre-birth Plan B contract. Bump Contracts show up in your life if you are off track in learning a particular soul lesson. If you don’t heed the Bump Contract the first time around, more bumps will occur until you finally get back on track toward learning the lesson.
The Different Types of Soul Contracts
It can be confusing to figure out what the different types of Soul Contracts really are. Since I literally wrote the book on Soul Contracts, and because I’ve been working with them professionally for almost twenty years as a Soul Level Coach, I’ve been able to simplify the types to make them easier to work with!
Take note: There’s a Soul Contract Q&A at the bottom of this page!
The challenge around learning the different types of soul contracts is that it’s not like you can look them up on the web or ask your Mom or doctor. Your personal Soul Contracts are exactly that: personal! First let’s get some background on Soul Contracts, so you have a strong foundation from which you can start understanding your own!
Soul Contracts (they’re not what you think!)
Before you embodied into being THIS body and in this lifetime, your Soul was super busy. You soul determined what lessons you needed to learn (called Soul Lessons) during your next lifetime to evolve and grow and move toward enlightenment.
Types of Soul Contracts #1 Soul Contracts Between Souls
This type of Soul Contract is the agreement that occurs between two souls before embodiment. Before you became Jane or John Smith, your soul got together which a whole bunch of other souls (human and animal) and figured out how you would help one another evolve in your upcoming lifetime. Sounds great right? The challenge is that most of the time, you (as the human attached to that soul) has no clue how this or that relationship is helping you evolve. Sure, your soul knows but it’s up to your human self to find out. It’s an interesting little system that has been put together for us. The more you work toward “getting” these relationships, the the more access to support and growth you have.
Types of Soul Contracts #2 Negative Soul Contracts
Don’t confuse Soul Contracts Between Souls, created before embodiment with Negative Soul Contracts, created during your lifetime. This is a completely different type of Soul Contract. You create these contract create during your lifetime when you’re trying to prevent yourself from experiencing a negative belief. For example, perhaps when you were a kid your parents disappointed you again and again. As a result, you began to believe that other people can’t come through for you and the best solution was to never reach out for help. While at the time, these workaround contracts may seem like a good idea, but as you grow older, they will likely start getting in your way somehow. Never being able to ask for help could be a problem!
Like Soul Contracts between souls, Negative Soul Contracts also help you evolve. Their road is just a bit bumpier. Feel like you’re a good person because you help others despite yourself? Perhaps, you’re someone who can’t break your word or maybe every time you make a friend you end up resenting them because they demand so much from you. These are all examples of Negative Soul Contracts.
Type of Soul Contracts #3 Animal Soul Contracts
In an Animal Soul Contract, your Soul and the Soul of your pet determined (pre-incarnation) how you were going to assist each other in your upcoming lifetime. For example, your dog may have contracted to assist you in learning to have a bigger voice by being very aggressive. In order to master the lesson in the Soul Contract between you and your dog, you’re then pushed to step as the alpha. As you work on this Soul Contract, your new found Alpha behavior will help you provide a better, more secure life for him. (It’s a win-win!)
The Benefits of Addressing Your Soul Contracts
When you address these two types of Soul Contracts (Between Souls and Negative), you get receive a lot of benefit.
If you’re addressing your Between Souls Type of Soul Contract, it means you’re learning why someone is in your life. Or you’re learning to evolve through your relationship with them.
If you’re addressing your Negative Type of Soul Contract, your working on shifting the underlying negative belief. For example, that others won’t come through for you because you’re not important enough.
When you start working with your Soul Contracts, your relationships change for the better. Your work feels more fulfilling – or you leave your job for a more fulfilling one. Maybe you finally feel comfortable living outside the box (perhaps you start your own business). Or maybe you finally feel happy taking care of yourself (after all, “selfish” is not a four-letter word).

Types of Soul Contract Questions and Answers
How is a Soul Contract different from a Soul Purpose?
Your Soul Purpose is what you came here to do. Once you align with the path of your Soul Purpose (in other words that amazing “thing” you dream about achieving) you’ll feel wonderfully fulfilled. Soul Contracts help you learn a lesson or master something that your Soul has been struggling to understand.
Do we have Soul Contracts with animal and person important to us?
It’s going to sound crazy, but we actually have Soul Contracts with every single being we come into contact with in our lives. This includes all people, family, friends, acquaintances as well as pets and other animals.
Can I change the Soul Contract between myself and another person or animal?
Contrary to popular belief, you cannot change any type of Soul Contract. These were all put in place by your Soul so that you could master something very important. You CAN however work to understand it and as you do that, things may get easier between you and the other person. This could mean that that person has to leave your life. Mastering a Soul Contract does not often result in the exact outcome you are looking for. For example, a woman may end up leaving her husband if her contract with him was to learn how to speak up – and when she starts working on this, he can’t handle it. The result wouldn’t necessarily be that the two would begin to get along – it might be that the woman realizes her husband will never be able to listen, so she leaves.
Can a Soul Contract stop me from creating what I want in life?
Absolutely! Soul Contracts can stop people from having success, make them overly loyal, have trouble telling their boss off, feel like shouldn’t try at something because they’ll probably fail and more. But rather than focusing there, what about focusing on all that you can achieve as you master these agreement
Soul Contracts – Prayers and Fulfillment
Prayers
This series looks at Soul Contracts. We will discuss if they exist, what they are, and what the traps and pitfalls may be. In this final entry, we look at Prayers and also how easily we can inadvertently fulfill a contract.
Prayers are a request to a higher power to receive something you want for either yourself, or others.
Many of us are taught to pray from a very early age.
Whether it is through religion, paganism, or a belief in a higher power, it’s the fallback for many in times of great hardship.
Prayers do work. Make no mistake about that. I’ve experienced the results personally when I’ve had others pray for me.
If done correctly, the prayer should go to either what we call God (which would be The Source) or to our Higher Self, which is the source of your own Soul.
Giving Away Power
Technically, we don’t have to pray to anyone to get what we desire. We have Free Will and with that comes the ability to choose and manifest any outcome we desire.
Prayer to a higher source is like giving our power away. It’s saying to the Universe that we don’t have the ability to do things, so we must rely on something greater than ourselves.
That is fine if that works for you, but remember, we are powerful beings. Taking responsibility for our powers and using them mindfully is important.
Choice
Though it may not appear to be so, it is always a choice.
Every choice defines our reality.
Our reality creates our Belief System.
Our Belief System reinforces our reality.
It’s worth being mindful of that. You are not subject to the whim of some God that decides if they will or won’t answer your prayers.
Demonics and gods
With this in mind, praying to other deities, such as gods and demonics, is never a wise thing.
Should they answer your prayers, they will consider it a type of contract and may come to collect at some point.
Demonics and gods are not known for their altruism.
Many of them tend to be overrated when it comes to compassion and kindness. They got to write their own bio, so you only know what they want you to know.
You don’t need them. Just don’t do it. You can do it yourself. In the long term, this is better for you. It gives you control back over your own life.
While prayers are considered a type of contract, they aren’t always as binding. It very much depends on who you are praying to, what you offer in return (if anything) and the understanding behind the prayer.
If you pray directly to The Source, then you should be fine. The Source has no need for anything in return. It is all that is. What could it possibly want? In essence, you are praying to yourself.
Contract Fulfillment Traps
The final thing I wish to touch upon is contract fulfillment.
Writing a contract is one thing but the execution of it is another. It is really easy to fulfill the terms without realizing you have done it.
The one I had with the Dark Council is a good example.
We had agreed that, in exchange for a favor, I would leave them alone for a certain amount of time.
With the help of the current incarnation of the god, Seth, we drew up a request that was watertight. When it comes to contracts, there are few better authorities on the subject. He really should have been a lawyer in this life.
Unintended Favor
When I was about to summon the members of the Dark Council, Seth stopped me and said he should do it as they could claim that me calling them was the favor.
While, technically, anyone could have called them, they were also not bound to appear when summoned.
This is an example of a loophole where my favor could have been wasted by an innocent oversight.
It would not have mattered how intended, or unintended it was. What mattered was that it would have fulfilled the conditions of the contract we had.
Loophole
Even my calling the favor, for the Dark Council to disband, was a loophole.
It is assumed that the hope was that, when I did eventually call on them to fulfill a request, it would bind and obligate me to them.
By asking them to disband, there was no council left for me to be obligated to.
It may never have occurred to the council that I would ever ask for such a thing. It may have been that, in their eyes, no one would want to remove something that could give them literally anything they desired.
I’m sure that if they could have a do over, they would specify what the favor would be in advance.
Interpretation
This example highlights just why it’s so dangerous to make Soul Contracts and the type of things that can go wrong, even though you may believe they are watertight.
Here on the 3D, you can always try and take the matter to a court and have them decide on who is right. The same rules do not apply for soul agreements.
Fairness, being technically right, intention, and errors will not help.
They are concepts that are man-made and subject to individual interpretation. Even this world can’t get it right.
No matter how clever and thorough we might be, it doesn’t take much for everything to become undone.
Final Thoughts
I feel the time is right to speak of these types of things. To reveal some of the workings behind how Soul Contracts work. We are heading into a rough and intense period.
The temptation to make deals, send out prayers, and so on, will be greatly increased.
Please share with anyone who you know might be considering such things.
Hopefully this series has been useful. Please ask any questions in the comment section.
Stay safe. Stay smart.
Soul Contracts – Pacts, Oaths and Promises
Soul Contracts are not the only way to make an Agreement.
Oaths
Oaths, generally speaking, are as binding as any contract.
It is basically a promise to fulfil a request or execute a duty.
For instance, when you join the military, you take an Oath to serve and protect your country. In such a case, you do not get to set out the conditions when you join. You will know in advance what to expect and how far you are likely to get.
Barring things like favouritism, you will start off at the same level and advantages as everyone else.
You will be bound by your Oath to perform the duty that you have sworn to do.
Making an Oath binding requires swearing on something that is sacred to you. Something that you would never wish to see compromised or violated.
The Whole Truth
Another example of this in the 3D is being under Oath in court. For instance, the Oath, as taken in Australia is: “I (swear/promise) by Almighty God (or the person may name a god recognized by his or her religion) that the evidence I shall give will be the Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth .”
You are essentially making a Promise that is binding on a Soul level.
While you might get away with breaking Oaths on the 3D level, the Soul level is not so forgiving, and there will always be consequences.
If you are forced to make an Oath against your will, you can also plead for clemency from that which you swore by, though some deities / forces are less forgiving than others.
It’s certainly a tricky situation and best avoided unless you have every intention of fulfilling your Oath.
The good thing about making an Oath on the 3D is that, once the body dies, that type of contract is generally deemed to be at an end.
Pacts
Pacts are like Soul Contracts, except less formal. You both make an agreement to do something. This might be to work together to achieve a certain goal or maybe reach a personal milestone in one’s life.
While Pacts are more informal, they can still be binding. If you happen to achieve your goal, but then try to cut out other parties, they may, and often do, seek retribution and compensation.
This can lead to catastrophic situations, especially when you are dealing with high stakes.
Indeed, such Pacts have had terrible consequences for this planet, which are still playing out today. (Though it is beyond the scope of this entry to discuss the details of this.)
Promises
Promises are less binding than Soul Contracts and Pacts. They have more to do with your personal code of ethics. How much value you put on your word and how you view yourself.
People make Promises very easily, and then forget to honor them once they have gotten what they want.
There is always a consequence for breaking a Promise.
There are varying degrees, though.
If you made a promise to do something, (but receive nothing in return for it), then it is generally your reputation that is on the line. Such reputations tend to last beyond this life.
Trust is eroded. We may not remember as people, but we will still feel a lack of trust that we may not be able to explain.
Feelings
When you meet certain parties again, they will most likely hold the memory of your failure to honor your word in their memories at some level.
They may not understand why they might not like or trust you, but they will feel something is off.
If you have made a promise to do something in exchange for another thing, such as a service, then it’s important you either keep that promise or seek to make restitution in other ways.
In such cases, the balance tends to go out, and karmically, you are creating a bond with the other parties that will put you in their debt until all parties are satisfied.
Keep Your Promises
Never make a Promise you do not intend to keep. Sometimes things do go wrong that may prevent you from honoring your word.
In such cases, at the very least, try to resolve it with the relevant parties. Just don’t ignore it.
I’ve never made a Promise I didn’t keep. Sometimes it might take me a while to get around to fulfilling it, but I always will.
I can wallpaper my room with the amount of unfulfilled promises that were made to me in exchange for my services.

Character
In any case, if you make a Promise, Oath, or Pact, and have no intention of upholding your end of the bargain, then it shows a lack of character.
Nothing is free. Sooner or later, the piper will come calling, and there will be Hell to pay, with interest.
